Marijke Peusken

Marijke Peusken is an ICT lecturer at Aventus in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, where she has been teaching with great enthusiasm for over three years. She lives in Zutphen, a historic city with roots dating back to Viking times.

As a career changer, Marijke started teaching in the field of Health and Social Care while simultaneously completing her teacher training — a common route in Dutch vocational education (MBO).

Her career path combines two main themes: care and ICT. Initially trained as a specialist pedagogue for children with intellectual disabilities, she worked in residential care for several years. After the birth of her son in the early 1990s, she taught herself ICT and moved into the tech industry — from selling digital X-ray systems and networks for dental practices to working in advanced security technology for clients like the police.

Marijke brings this unique blend of experience into her classroom, making theory relevant and engaging. A highlight of her teaching career was participating in the international BIDS exchange program in Finland, where she experienced the shared global mission of vocational educators: putting students first.
