Wayne McKay is an educator and theatre artist who has worked as an instructor at Nova Scotia Community College for the past 5 years. At NSCC, he teaches many courses related to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility. He also acts as the faculty support person for the Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) at NSCC Sydney Waterfront Campus.
Before working at NSCC, Wayne worked for 10 years in the recreation field where he was a provincial leader in opening up recreation spaces to be more inclusive. He worked for the Province of Nova Scotia to facilitate the development of the Mi’kmaw Physical Activity Leadership program which helped to support the hiring of recreation professionals in Mi’kmaw communities across the province.
He is an outdoor enthusiast, avid runner and cyclist and loves exploring the outdoors of Cape Breton with his wife, two daughters and dog. Part of his interest in coming to Finland was to experience the excellent cycling infrastructure of Oulu and to consider how we can apply this type of community design to communities in Canada. He was extremely pleased and honoured to be part of the BIDS Inclusion Program.
